Screaming Lord Byron by Mr-Ripley Screaming Lord Byron by Mr-Ripley
This is my first commission work in deviantART. It's a picture of David Bowie as Screaming Lord Byron in his Blue Jean music video. All is done in Photoshop CS2. It took a long time. Thank so much to my very nice friend :iconmonstarart: for believing in me and for everything. =D

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edited version: I broaden out the background, and adjusted color on the shade area of his head from dark pink tone to bright blue tone.

David Bowie is one of the finest entertainers in the business. The artist has paid him a great homage with this portrait. The vision in this work is highly praiseworthy. Bowie is a flamboyant entertainer and the artist has captured that with precision by surrounding him with the eye popping colors that harmonize with Bowie’s infamous pronounced facial expression in song. Five stars for vision and for the impact of this portrait as the likeness is so impeccably accurate that it gives off the assumption that you are gazing at Bowie performing live. The artist has delivered the intensity of Bowie’s eyes and the strength of his convictions in expression when he croons a song as Blue Jean. The lighting is perfection. I love the way it adds dimension and energy to his eyes. One of the most daunting tasks in digital art is hair. I have never seen hair so near to lifelike as it is in this portrait. Five stars for technique and for originality. The dA who commissioned this is one lucky soul. The artist presented them with more than they could have possibly expected. David Bowie as if in the flesh!

I am astounded by this. I saw it on :iconpatrick2006:'s page and I had to see it in full view, (which is the only way to view any art). David Bowie is one of those people who seem to be larger than life. He has great charisma, a very flamboyant persona and even though I have never had the pleasure of seeing him perform live, You have so perfectly captured that indefinable quality of his inner spirit in this, and this presents such a strong presence of him that I wish it were possible to walk into the painting and meet the man behind the music.

You have created a wonderful sense of depth in this. I love your usage of vibrant colors. I also love how you painted his face. The color transitions are exquisite. They are bold, while at the same time there is such a subtle change that one doesn't really notice the transitions. They only see him.

I have never understood how an artist is able to capture the essence of another person, so that it isn't just a drawing or painting, but a work of art.

I think that is a rare talent, I truly do, and you have it.

I look at this and I see the shape of his mouth, the lines in his face, the sculpted cheekbone that is visible to us and is so noticeable that it is almost a trademark of him. Those eyes, and that hair which is the best I have ever seen that anyone has drawn. I would think that the eyes would be the hardest to draw. Getting the "look" of the person can't be easy.

I also like the little flares of light you have in here. Once again, for the most part, very subtle and not screaming at us, but we know they are there. They add a bit more magic to this outstanding piece of art.

There is one thing that I would like to point out, for your consideration. I find the white lighting on his forehead somewhat harsh in comparison to the subtleties of the rest of the painting. This is a personal preference only. I realize that might have been your intention, to show the white more dramatically.

I can only give you 100 percent ratings all the way.
Your work has the evidence of planning, and commitment to detail. I hope you will create more. Your work is exquisite.
